Top 5 Summer Skincare Tips

 Hey, loves! Summer is finally here (we say summer in hesitation if you’re in the UK lol) and it's time to soak up the sunshine, hit the beach, and enjoy those endless summer days. BUT before you step out into the sun, or rain, let’s make sure your skin stays healthy and glowing. Here are our top five skincare tips to keep your skin gorg all summer long (even if we do have a bit of shit weather)!

Always Wear SPF and Reapply Every Few Hours 

Sunscreen is your skin’s best friend in the summer. The sun’s UV rays can cause serious damage, including premature aging and increased risk of skin cancer. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and slather it on generously. Make sure to reapply every three hours, WE MEAN IT!! Especially if you’re swimming or sweating. Little extra tip, keep a travel-sized bottle in your bag for easy touch-ups throughout the day. 

Stay Hydrated On the Inside

Hydration is essential to getting that summer glow lovelies. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water throughout the day to ensure your body and skin is hydrated. Don’t forget you can munch on water-rich fruits and veggies such as watermelon, cucumbers, and strawberries to keep your skin lovely and plump. Lastly, don’t forget about incorporating electrolytes to maintain the balance of fluids in your body as you lose these when you sweat! We highly recommend getting a coconut from the supermarket, and drinking the water straight from it (warning, it may make you feel like you're in the caribbean!). 

Avoid Retinol in Direct Sunlight

Don’t get us wrong, retinol is unreal for skin rejuvenation, but this product can definitely make your skin more sensitive to the sun. If you’re using retinol during the day, expect an increased risk of sunburn and irritation. So please, please, please do not be silly and stick to applying retinol products at night and ALWAYS follow up with sunscreen during the day… thanks! 

Wash Away The Sweat
Ok listen, you need to be really washing away that sweat and build up of SPF that’s been sitting on your face all day. First, use an oil-based cleanser to melt away sunscreen, sweat, and all that beach day grime. Then, follow up with a gentle cleanser to wash away any leftover impurities and leave your skin feeling fresh and squeaky clean. Trust us, your pores will thank you! 

Stay Hydrated On The Outside 

After a day in the sun, your skin needs some extra TLC. Reach for hydrating skincare products to replenish lost moisture from the sun. Look for ingredients like aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, and glycerin that soothe and hydrate your skin. A cooling gel or a refreshing mist can also do wonders to calm and hydrate sun-kissed skin (sun-kissed, not burnt as we have learnt to wear SPF and reapply haven’t we lol)
